Course Objective
This course was started in March 2005 to train Ophthalmologists in manual SICS. For ophthalmic surgeons all over the world, manual SICS provides the ideal stepping stone to mastering phacoemulsification. The objective of this course is to convert an ECCE surgeon to perform SICS with the help of a well structured training program. Till date JPM had trained more than two hundred ophthalmologist in SICS.
Highlights of the course:
- JPM offers a state of the art wet lab facility which provides SICS training on cadaver eyes. Candidate will have training on cadaver eyes and Goat eyes at the wet lab prior to performing real time surgery.
- Surgeries supervised by senior instructors till the surgeon gains confidence to perform independent surgeries.
- Structured classes on various topics related to SICS with the help of videos.
- Access to various standard and recent books and videos in the library.
- Postoperative review of cases by senior consultants.
- Maintenance of case records for future personal use.
- Participation in Journal club/grand rounds/guest lectures. Broad Schedule
- 1st week: Observing SICS and performing ECCE cases for 2 days.
- 2nd week: SICS step surgery under the supervision.
- 3rd &4th week: Perform surgeries independently.
- In the afternoon session, trainees can get practice in wet lab on human donor/animal eye/simulator

- Eligibility Criteria: Qualified practicing Ophthalmologist with MS /DO degree from recognized university with very good experience in ECCE/ IOL surgery
- No. of Positions: 2 Nos.
- Duration: 1 month
- Starting Date: 1st of every month
- Course Fee: Rs. 60000
- Accommodation will be provided for the selected candidates based on their request.
- Mode of Payment The intimation will be sent to the selected candidates by email / post. The payment should be made either in the form of demand drafts, drawn in favour of “JPM Rotary Eye Hospital & Research Institute” payable at “Cuttack” or through online. International candidates can pay the course fee through wire transfer. Once paid, fee is non-refundable for any reasons.

- This process will take minimum three months to complete and this process will be done through the organization only.
- Hence the international candidates will get slots only after three months of the application submission

Short Term Training in Phacoemusification
JPM Rotary Eye Hospital offered a short term training programme in phacoemulsification for practicing ophthalmologists. The aim is to train candidates in phacoemulsification surgery as well as in the maintenance of phaco machines.
Highlights of the course
- A state of the art wetlab facility which provides phacoemulsification training on animal eyes. Candidates will have exposure to the phaco machine at the centre prior to performing real time surgery.
- Access to various standard and high end phaco machines and foldable IOLs Structured classes on the maintenance and servicing of phacoemulsification machines and their accessories.
- Surgeries supervised by senior instructors until surgeon gains confidence to perform independent surgeries
- Postoperative review of cases by senior consultants.
- Various video assisted lectures including Phaco Dynamics, Phaco Techniques, Newer Phaco Technologies,
- Phaco in Challenging Cases, Newer IOLs etc
- Maintenance of case records for future personal use
